Canopy Market Kings Cross

Art design fashion and food

Canopy Market is run by Real Food Festivals and is open every day until Sunday 16th December. This year you can enjoy new pop-ups from independent designers and makers, collaborations with Crafty Fox Market and Made in Arts London, plus talks from the Design Museum. And of course, delicious grub, mulled wine and live music. It’s open Monday – Thursday: 12.00-19.00, Friday: 12.00-20.00, Saturday & Sunday 11.00-18.00.

Stalls at Canopy Market

Here’s an Xmas list of just some of the treats you can stuff your face and fill your stocking with:

Cheese, chocolate and churros

  • Let the over-indulgence commence. The Big Melt serves delicious gooey cheese toasties on sourdough bread. Then there’s Heritage Cheese who sell traditional cheeses from across England and Ireland – clothbound vintage cheddar, Stilton from the Peak District and Ballylisk triple cream from Armagh. Yvette’s Chocolates do amazing ethical things with chocolate. And Churros Garcia offer freshly fried crispy churros with cinnamon and dipping chocolate.

Streetfood, seafood, salmon

  • Still hungry? Fill your fur-lined boots with golden Sicilian Arancini risotto balls, Korean Bulgogi BBQ ‘fire meat’, sustainably sourced smoked salmon, Colchester Oysters from Mersea Island, Cheeky Burgers and Venezuelan Arepas in pork, beef, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. The goose isn’t the only thing that’s getting fat round here.

Babywear and blankets

  • There are clothes and craft stalls for all ages. Babywear from little people specialists Kin and Cloth. Crazy colourful socks from Ballonet. Hand-loomed Turkish textiles from Pür that can be used as wraps, throws or beach blankets.

Flower power

  • Garage forecourt Poinsettias just don’t cut it. Treat your significant other to something from The English Flowerhouse, an independent boutique florist stall, specialising in beautiful hand-made Christmas wreaths and floral decorations. Or if you want something longer lasting, try Smith & Strand for handcrafted silk flower accessories.

Festive funk on fridays

  • From 5pm to 8pm on Fridays music fills the air. ‘Love For Sale’ are a proper jazz band playing a Blue Note sound honed by over 300 gigs in the last 3 years. ‘Boom La Tete’ are a double act bringing together gypsy swing and rock and roll. ‘De Fuego’ are an award winning Spanish guitar duo playing instrumental flamenco and rumba fresh from the festivals. Theodore is a musician, poet and artist whose explorative performances cover folk, reggae, jazz and funk. Turn up and get down.

Santa's workshops

  • Beach London, design and pin-badge store, will be running fun workshops to customize presents. Make a badge or key ring with the Design Museum. Or create your own 12” ceramic decorative wall plate with Darkroom Bauhaus. Check the website for more details.

Stacks of stocking fillers

  • You’ll find artists, print makers, fragrance creators and designers rubbing shoulders with brewers, baristas and bearded juice makers. Expect to find limited edition prints, handmade notebooks, cards, tote bags, Japanese cycle helmets, Harry Potter glasses, brooches, T-shirts and tops made for women by women.

And there's more

  • House of Illustration will be selling works from up and coming illustrators. On the 15th of December there’s an Independent Label Market with vinyl LPs, books and posters. An internet connected robot drawing arm will be swinging into action next weekend. There’s a jewellery making demonstration. And don’t miss the 100% recycled plastic bench where you can sit down and catch your breath.

Attic Self Storage's local market

The Christmas Canopy Market is located under the historic West Handyside Canopy, just off Granary Square (a brief sleigh ride from Attic Self Storage if you’d like to slip by and say hello). It’s an altogether more civilized shopping experience than braving Westfield or the West End. And if you’re looking for somewhere elegant to eat, why not try a few canapés under the canopy?
