The Ever Expanding Attic Self Storage in London
King’s Cross Self Storage Opening Soon in London
Last week saw us pouring the concrete on a brand new Attic Self Storage facility over in King’s Cross, Islington (London). And although our roots are firmly East End, we’re pleased to report that no local villains were added to the mix.
It’s been a long time in the planning, or more accurately with the delightful folk over in the Islington Planning Department, but we are overjoyed to announce that the building work is finally underway. The lift shaft has been dug and the floors are going down.
I have to say it’s a satisfying thing watching ready-mix pumping over the rebar (steel support mesh), filling the holes, smoothing out the cracks and, with a bit of ‘floating’, providing a polished base for everything else that’s yet to come.
Solid foundations. That’s what we’re all about.
Following the successful model of Attic Self Storage HQ in Wick Lane, London E3, we decided that there was a big hole in the market in North London that only we could fill. After 8 years of building our business in Hackney we’ve decided the time is right for us to expand.
Sitting near the top of York Way, right on the border between the London boroughs of Islington and Camden, the old feather factory was the perfect premises for us to take over. Once we’d got rid of all the feathers and made a few structural alterations to the interior, obviously. When our new facility is fully built, it will provide 36,000 square feet of state of the art storage space via 650 individual storage units. Or thereabouts.
Along with a brand new reception space and all the same old Attic Self Storage customer service values that our customers have come to expect – friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff; free tea and coffee; and all the boxes, tape, bubble-wrap & packing materials you could possibly ask for. We’ve done our research and there are a lot of people in the immediate area who can use secure 24-hour-access Self Storage.
Holloway Prison is just around the corner – we’re perfectly placed if you need to store the contents of your house while you ‘go away for a little while’.
Arsenal’s Emirates stadium is only a ball’s throw away – why not store your hats, scarves and Gooners flags ready for next season?
Kings X International Station is a brief stroll down the road – take out a smaller storage unit and leave your heavy luggage with us for a few weeks while you explore London. (Prendre une unité de stockage plus petit et laisser vos bagages lourds avec nous pour quelques semaines pendant que vous explorez Londres).
The whole area around the new Attic Self Storage building is one of Europe’s biggest development zones – or ‘a vibrant new city quarter’ if you read the construction company’s brochure. There are new homes, shops, offices, bars, restaurants and a swimming pool. Central St. Martin’s College of art is helping to introduce a whole new species to the area – students with beards, spikey hair and super skinny jeans splashed with paint.
We’re still getting to know our new neighbours.
We’ve already decided, as part of our commitment to the local environment, that we’re going to ‘green’ the roof of our new Attic and install a set of bee hives that The North London Beekeepers Association will help us to maintain.
We will also be supporting a fantastic local arts project, Artbox London run, by a dynamic young lady named Madeline and we’re hoping to display some of the artworks they are creating in our new window gallery when we open.
If you know of another worthy cause in the N1 area, please let us know about it and we’ll see if we can offer our support. Wherever Attic Self Storage goes, we want to make a positive impact on the local area and on the people’s lives that live there. Even if they’ve had to put up with the rumble of a few concrete mixers for the last few days.
People, bees, charities… if we build it, they will come!
