Well that flew past didn’t it? And we’re not just talking about the month of August. We’re talking about the snaking, multi-legged spectacle of the Pride 10k Run that raced through Victoria Park a few weeks back.
Like a suitably exuberant rainbow trout, Attic Self Storage leapt at the chance to be one of the major sponsors once again. We also sent down a team of enthusiastic staff members to support the event, cheer along the runners and indulge in a day of blatant self-promotion.
GRAB A GOODIE BAG
As specialists in providing storage space for all manner of non-gender specific personal belongings, Attic thought it was apt to dish out fashionable eco-friendly re-useable cloth goodie bags to all the runners once they had crossed the finish line. Just what you want when you’re doubled up, gasping for breath and covered in sweat – a goodie bag from Attic.
These delightful collector’s items were emblazoned with the Attic Self Storage logo and also contained Attic branded sticky notes along with an Attic donated energy replenishing sports drink. There were quite a few other things in the bags too but seeing as this is our blog, we’ll only going to mention the ones that had our logo on them.
EVERY BODY WELCOME
As usual, the entire event was organised and martialled by volunteers from London Frontrunners – an inclusive running club for lesbians, gay and bisexual men and women, plus transgender and gay-friendly people. (The type of folks who recognise an open-minded and supportive storage facility when they see one of our goodie bags).
The day kicked off with a 2km Fun Run for kids aged between 4 and 14 which seemed to rope in a lot of unsuspecting Mums and Dads who thought they were going to get away with just being spectators. Are we nearly there yet? Ha-ha, no.
WHAT A DAY
There was a terrific atmosphere of inclusiveness, unity and support as the main 10K event got underway. Participants came from all over the place (this is such an inclusive event even people with Brummie accents were allowed to take part). Plenty of competitors wore fancy dress and, of course, enough rainbow colours to sink a large grey battleship.
It was a really blustery day and during one part of the course the runners had to run directly into the headwind, which was a bit of a challenge to say the least. But when you’ve got an Attic Self Storage goodie bag waiting for you, you just put your head down, embrace the pain and sprint for the tape.
TROPHY WINNING RUNNERS
Considering the stiff breeze that they were running against, the times were pretty impressive. First place went to Josselin Polini of Victoria Park Harriers & Tower Hamlets AC with a time of 0:33:10. Second was James Dance who waltzed across the line in 0:34:15, followed by Thomas South who took third position with 0:34:33.
Well done to all those who took part and we hope you get plenty of use and enjoyment out of the Attic Self Storage goodie bags which you received at the finish line. We did mention the Attic Self Storage goodie bags didn’t we?
