Swimming, Nature and Self Storage Come Together
Phew! As the weather gets warmer and our minds turn to swimming, I start to appreciate just how cool and crisp the freshly painted corridors of Attic Self Storage are. They’re a breath of fresh air compared to some of the dusty, stuffy, old- fashioned facilities I’ve visited in my lifetime. You wouldn’t want to be trapped in one of those during the summer.
With the sunshine heading our way, now’s the time to dig out your shorts, trunks and bikinis and get yourself geared up for the beach, hotel pool, or festival campsite (you might need your wellies for that last one). If you’re looking for an excuse to strip off, or inspiration to get fit, you’ll find it just a brief stroll across the River Lea from our Wick Lane HQ…
The Aquatic Centre in The Olympic Park
is currently playing host to the last major competition before the Rio Olympics springs to life. Swimming, Diving and Synchro disciplines have been on display for the past couple of weeks and after 64 events team GB ended up on top of the table with 33 medals (10 gold, 11 silver and 12 bronze). Well done to all concerned! The Masters Championships are yet to come – 25th
May – and if you’re lucky you might still be able to pick up a ticket.
The Aquatic Centre pool is open to the public all year round and is well worth a visit, even when Tom Daley and his chums aren’t splashed all over the headlines. Designed by Zaha Hadid (who, sadly, passed away at the end of March) the place is a breathtaking space both inside and out. Swimming sessions are very reasonably priced and the kid’s pool is kept at a nice, slightly heated temperature to avoid chattering teeth.
And while I’m on the subject of H2O, across town, near Attic Self Storage’s soon to be opened King’s Cross branch, there’s another sort of aquatic adventure to be had altogether – The King’s Cross Pond
is the UK’s first ever man-made fresh water public bathing pond. Entitled ‘Of Soil And Water’, the 40 metre long, natural, chemical-free installation is the creation of Ooze Architects and artist Marjetica Potrc. It’s a delightfully designed piece of experiential art, smack bang in the heart of an urban environment.
This is one that you definitely want to try out on a hot day.
The pool itself is purified using wetland and submerged water plants to filter and sustain clean and clear water. You’ll hardly believe you’re in the middle of a building site, so close to a major rail terminal, as you enjoy a refreshing dip surrounded by pioneer plants, wild flowers, grasses and bushes. It’s designed so that the environment evolves as the seasons change.
We’ve done something similar, albeit on a less watery scale, with the front of Attic Self Storage HQ in Bow. Our front garden area is now covered with a carpet of green as the wild flower seedlings push their way up and the lavender bushes start to fill out and come blossoming back to life.
We don’t have an open-air Lido unfortunately, but we do have toilet facilities where you can splash some cool water on your face. Plus our front of house team are always happy to offer you a cup of tea or a cold drink to take the edge off your packing or unpacking.
At Attic we pride ourselves on offering our customers a refreshing alternative to fusty old self storage facilities.
Come on in, the units are lovely!
