Foodcycle Hackney Hub

Feeding vulnerable people in Hackney

The Foodcycle Hackney Hub provide a valuable service. For people who are struggling to make ends meet, Easter is full of chocolate egg temptations, whose glossy packaging to entice purchase only serves to remind them of the difference between those who have and those who have not.

Mindful of this Attic Self Storage offered to donate some chocolate Easter Eggs to the Foodcycle Hackney Hub. A kitchen staffed by volunteers, where people receive a hot meal and have the opportunity to meet up in a safe environment.

n we suggested providing some Easter Eggs, we found that the “hub” desperately needed basic ingredients such as potatoes, onions, tomatoes, spices, salt, pepper, cooking oils, pasta, cheese and coffee, so that they could provide nutritious meals and beverages to vulnerable people. So we donated these “essentials” instead.

We also discovered that the “hub’s” industrial blender had broken, so we added that to our donation as well.

Everything was gratefully received as shown in the email response from Anne.

” From FoodCycle Hackney with love to Fred and Kane. You are wonderful. We saw Kane burst in during our Thursday lunch yesterday with a lorry load of perfectly selected cupboard items that will keep us going for months.”

Attic Self Storage is an independent local self storage company who cares about the community it serves.

Who are FoodCycle?

Foodcycle is a national charity that combines volunteers, surplus food, and spare kitchen spaces, to create tasty, nutritious meals for people at risk of food poverty and social isolation.

Outward has bought a social franchise from FoodCycle, so FoodCycle are powered by Outward.

Outward are a support and care charity for vulnerable people with learning difficulties. They also deliver the Hackney Volunteer & Befriending service which originally set up the Hackney Hub, because they identified a need for community meals where guests can access free food, whilst combating their social isolation through eating with others.
