Westfield Stratford City information

The mall sits on almost any route connecting the centre of Stratford, with its train stations, the Olympic park, and the new housing built post Olympic Games. Before London won the contest to host the Olympics, there was a plan for the 180 acre Stratford City site, which followed a traditional approach of a well-defined grid system of streets with a mixture of homes, shops, and offices. After London won the bid to hold the Olympic Games, the previous plans were rethought, as the organisers needed access to their park and somewhere to put the athletes’ village. The owners, (which included Westfield), of the Stratford City site could offer both, and saw it as an opportunity to to accelerate the building of the mall. It changed a 40 year project into a 15 year project.

The project had to abide by strict environmental conditions which resulted in the centre achieving an excellent rating for sustainability. The inside is formed around a crescent shaped, triple-decker arcade, and the outside part is an avenue that led to the Olympics from Stratford station via a bridge over the railway lines.

Westfield Stratford City became one of the largest shopping centres in Europe. It was opened in September 2011 and attracted many high street brands including John Lewis, who opened their first new store for some years. In addition there are 3 new hotels and a complex of executive suites.

The centre has made a huge economic contribution to the local area, although some local businesses have seen a decline in sales. The Attic Self Storage facility in Bow is used by businesses located in the new centre and outside, and our storage facility is well placed for supplier stock which can be transferred by using our man and van service.
